about tales from the tarot

Tales from the Tarot

If you love tales of fantasy, intrigue and adventure with a good dash of magic and a sprinkling of romance, step right in!

Tales from the Tarot is an evolving series, set in the fictional medieval continent of Altius Mysterium.

Within Altius Mysterium are four separate lands: Epera in the chilly north is the kingdom of Swords.

Way down south lies the dry desert kingdom of Battonia, land of Wands.

The Kingdom of Cups, gentle Oceanis, lies in the east, and finally the west is home to the rich and fertile lands of Argentia, Kingdom of Pentacles.

Each of these kingdoms contain their own fair share of vagabonds, rogues, merchants and princes. And, like their tarot deck counterparts, each Kingdom struggles with its own particular demons.

You’ll find themes of justice, imbalance, choice and hope within the pages of the Saga of the Swords.

Meanwhile, the major characters in the Way of the Wands wrestle with boundaries, beliefs, strength and passion.

The Call of the Cups set in the lakeland world of Oceanis deals with the ebb and tide of human emotion. Loss, grief, love and transendence all play their part within these pages.

Finally, the Pride of the Pentacles deals with earthy matters. Greed, avarice, wealth, and power battle with the spirit of  generosity and gratitude for the characters in these stories.

All these themes play out as seen through the eyes of the Tarot court cards in a series of immersive and mesmerising novels.

If you’ve ever wondered what these enigmatic characters might be like to meet in person – perhaps you’ll get some clues here!

And if you have no interest or knowledge of the Tarot – don’t let that stop you from enjoying some great characters and some epic adventures!

Welcome, wanderer! Your journey starts here!

Seer of Epera

queen of swords

Epic fantasy adventure with a side of romance!

Forty years have passed since Theda Eglion concealed her Book of Shadows. Her vision of a future Epera denied its magic has come to pass. The Blessed are hunted down and used as slaves in the mines. Famine and flood wreak havoc with successive harvests and the population is on the verge of war and starvation.

Epera’s only hope lies in the birth of a healthy heir. Trapped in a ten year marriage to a cruel and sickly ruler, Queen Petronella has failed to conceive. A virtual prisoner, she’s almost ready to give up and accept death as punishment for failure.

But the discovery of an ancient, enigmatic book and the attempt on the life of an innocent young woman drives Petronella to escape her cloistered life and search for the truth.

A perilous journey leads her far from Epera into a world of adventure, magic and mystery as she seeks to unlock the bitter secrets of the past.

But as war rages and Epera fails, she finds knowing the truth is just the start of her problems.

The real danger to Epera lies much closer to home. And facing it could break her.

There’s a particularly evocative card in the tarot deck that often comes up in readings. It’s the Five of Cups – a card that depicts grief, and how hard it is to recover from terrible losses. Here’s an uplifting tale that follows Carlos, a bereaved master fisherman and his journey through grief to acceptance.

I hope you enjoy it.
